I feel like 2014 has been the year of the awesome natural deodorant discovery. I’ve discovered Schmidt’s, Colorado Pit Stik and Primal Paste, and now I have Bubble & Bee and Greenbody to add to the list!
First, Bubble & Bee. I actually picked up Bubble & Bee’s cream deodorants a loooong time ago, before my Well Beauty Blog days and really liked it. Not too long ago, I put in another order to try some fun, new Bubble & Bee products and scooped up a couple of their cream deodorants again because I remember liking them so much. What’s really nice is you can buy trial sizes of their cream deodorants. One trial size lasts quite some time. They say two weeks on their website but I feel like it’s three weeks to a month for me.
The scents I have are, with their official descriptions (and my notes):
Geranium Lime: Deodorizing blend of floral and citrus (more geranium scent than lime, the most floral of the 4)
Jasmint: A sweet blend of floral jasmine and cooling mint (more mint than jasmine, the sweetest of the 4)
Spearmint and Tea Tree: Minty and mellow (a fresh spearmint scent with a hint of tea tree, the most refreshing of the 4)
Super Pit Putty: Harnesses the deodorizing power of patchouli (a mixture of clove and patchouli, the most unisex of the 4)
The cream deodorants are, as you might guess, a cream :o) They are very creamy though. Some cream deodorants can be a gritty or dry-feeling from the baking soda, but this is very creamy and moisturizing feeling.
All of the scents work really well, I haven’t found one to be more or less effective than the other. The scents for these are strong too. I sometimes catch a whiff of them during the day. Most deodorant scents tend to fade pretty quickly but not these!
My personal favorite is the Super Pit Putty, I really like the clove mixed with patchouli. Even though cloves are usually a designated winter scent, I have been wearing this lately and love it!
Ingredients for these: Organic arrowroot powder, organic shea butter, organic coconut oil, organic sunflower oil, (aluminum-free) baking soda, (essential oil blend, depends on the scent).
So all start with the same formula but then the last ingredients will be the various essential oils used for the fragrance. While arrowroot powder is number one, I think the mixture of shea butter, coconut oil and sunflower oil help this be so smooth and creamy.
And the best part? This isn’t just natural, it’s organic! Yay for organic deodorant! :o)
Now, for Greenbody. I am super excited to share that I have finally found a bar deodorant that is easy to apply and works all day!
While it is a bar deodorant, it still has a creamy texture. At room temperature, it is a solid but then melts against your body temperature. I usually only have to swipe once and I then can feel it warm up and soften, and then it applies really smoothly. While I have gotten used to applying deodorant with my hands, I have to say – it is really nice to just swipe this and go and not have to worry about washing my hands after! Greenbody really nailed it with their formula for being a solid that turns into a soft cream with application.
I have the Clarity scent, which is a lovely blend of two of my most favorite scents: ylang ylang and jasmine. It also has some sandalwood which really grounds the floral duo. It’s a soft scent though, I only smell it lightly as I apply and then I usually don’t smell after.
Ingredients for Clarity: Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch*, Sodium Bicarbonate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Essential Oils of: Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel, Pogostenmon Cablin (Patchouli), Cananga Odorata (Ylang-Ylang) Flower, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower, Santalum Album (Sandalwood).
Because I apply this directly to my underarms, I don’t feel the texture like I do with my other deodorants. Feeling it with my fingers though, it does have a little bit of a drier texture, but not gritty. The baking soda is balanced with the cocoa see butter and coconut oil really well.
Of course the biggest question is – how well do both of these work? Well, I already mentioned that Greenbody lasts all day and so does Bubble & Bee! These work very, very well.
It has been HOT lately (100-108 degrees) and I have had zero BO, all day. I haven’t had to ‘freshen up’ or re-apply mid-day or anything, these are so effective. I even have tested these while wearing knit nylon tops (which anyone who lives in hot climates knows are awful for BO) and no BO even with nylon! I’m super impressed.
These don’t stop me from sweating (no natural deodorant does), but I have noticed a slight decrease in the amount of underarm sweat lately, which perhaps could be attributed to these? Iv’e been switching off between Greenbody and Bubble & Bee, and I haven’t noticed a difference between the amount of sweat day-to-day. I don’t know if my body has just become so accustomed to natural deodorants over the years I’m sweating less? Or, it could be the formula helps soak up some excess sweat. I’m not sure.
Either way, these deodorants have been awesome, even in the extreme heat. And I’m so thankful to have found a bar deodorant I can reach for in the morning when I’m rushed and don’t want to get my fingers dirty. Yay for awesome natural (and organic) deodorants!
What natural deodorant have you been wearing lately? Have you tried these before?
