Cleaning products were the first things that I switched to environmentally-friendly. Over the past years, I have found a few products that are awesome. So as you go through your house, doing a deep cleaning for spring, don’t use products that contain harmful ingredients, go eco! If you want to know more about why you should stop using traditional cleaning products, EWG has a good PDF you can read for more info.
I have bought products from Target, Whole Foods and am now even finding them in local grocery stores! Now that I know what products work well though, I tend to buy them on iHerb or Amazon since they are cheaper. I like a good deal!
Some of the links below are to iHerb, and include my affiliate code in the link. First time users will get $5 off orders under $40 and $10 off orders over $40 with the built-in code. Happy spring cleaning! :o)
Seventh Generation Natural Dishwasher Detergent Gel – I buy the Free & Clear Detergent Gel, I don’t need fragrant dishes ;o) There are actually lots of great dishwater detergent gels out there, but I like Seventh Generation so I keep buying it.
Ecover Natural Rinse Aid – I unfortunately live in an area with very hard water and so have to use a rinse aid. This was one of the hardest items to find a good replacement. I tried a few and have the best luck with Ecover’s.
Roux Maison Laundry Detergent is hands down my favorite laundry detergent. I’ve tried others and always go back to Roux Maison. It’s a bit pricey, so I tend to re-order on Amazon or will pick up at Whole Foods when it’s on sale. While I usually buy fragrance free products, Ambrosia smells heavenly. It’s a lavender, floral blend and the scent actually stays with the clothes. And what’s really awesome is you only need the tiniest amount – 2 capfuls (and the caps are small). A little goes a very long way. In short – it’s awesome.
Seventh Generation Dryer Sheets – Fabric softeners are a tough one. I tried the wooly dryer balls and the little plastic ones and they don’t prevent static. I do think they work well to decrease drying time though. There aren’t many options for eco-dryer sheets. I haven’t found one that has a good scent or a scent that stays on clothes, so I just stick with fragrance free.

Earth Friendly Products – Parsley Plus is an excellent all purpose cleaner and smells AMAZING. It has a green, clean freshness to it – not like what you would think of with parsley in the title. It smells so good, I have spritzed it in the air to use as an air freshener before. I love it.
Seventh Generation – Glass & Surface Cleaner works really well on glass. I have tried quite a few glass cleaners and all left streaks, except for this one. It does work well for surfaces too, but I prefer to keep this for glass and use others on surfaces. Seventh Generation does also make an All Purpose Cleaner, but I like the Glass & Surface Cleaner more for glass.
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Scrub – Out of all the eco-scrubs I’ve tried, I like Mrs. Meyer’s the best. It scrubs nicely and doesn’t leave a white residue behind. Both the lavender and basil scent are really nice, but I like the Basil one a bit more.
Williams Sonoma Essential Oils All Purpose Cleaner is my go-to cleaner for floors. You may not think of Williams Sonoma when you think of eco-friendly, but their all purpose cleaners are actually relatively ‘green.’ The product is biodegradable and free from ammonia, chlorine, DEA, phosphates and parabens. Since it’s concentrated, you only need to add a little bit for a lot of water. I use it in my refillable mop. One container will last a very long time. They also make seasonal scents, which usually go on sale end of season (a little trick from a former Williams Sonoma employee!).
So these are all of my favorite eco-friendly cleaning products. What are yours??
