Oh how I love spring! The flowers, the fun spring colors, spring cleaning and organizing – and overall sense of renewal. So to welcome in spring, I’ll be doing a series of reviews all about spring!
To get spring started, I have to start with fun makeup of course ;o) Jane Iredale just launched a new Magic Hour collection that is full of gorgeous spring colors and products. I love that this spring it is all about golden tones. Lots of gold eyes, golden shimmer blushes, and peach-tones. Very flattering to many skin tones (including mine)!
This collection is not sold as one bunch (like in one box), but individually, which is nice because you can pick and choose favorites. My favorites:
- Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner in Black and Brown
- In Touch Highlighter in Comfort
- Eye Shadow Triple in Golden Girl
First, the eyeliners.
I usually stick with pencils for ease of use, but these new Jelly Jar gel eyeliners are awesome. They have a soft consistency in the jar, so transfer easily to liner brushes. While they are soft in the jar, once they set on skin they STAY. All day. Seriously. These are pretty awesome in how they do not budge at all. At the very end of the day, my eyeliner looks just like it did first thing in the morning.
They are also very pigmented. The black is a very dark black, and the brown is a beautiful, shimmering dark brown. Here are swatches so you can see:
Next is the Golden Girl eye shadow trio.
Golden Girl has three colors. The lightest is a peachy golden color. While it looks more like a tan in the container, on my skin it is more peach and warm-toned. The second color is a true gold. Even though it is a bold, yellow-gold, it still works well on my fair, neutral-toned skin (but may be too warm for cool-toned skin). The darkest is my favorite, it’s a bronzey-brown that is not too cool or too warm and would work well with any skin tone.
As with all other Jane Iredale eye shadows, these have tons of pigment, apply and blend well, and last all day (disclaimer though, I always wear an eye primer). Here are the colors with the black eyeliner:
Above my lash line is the peachy tan, then on my inner lids I used the gold and transitioned to the bronze on the outside. I used the Jelly Jar eyeliner to accentuate my lash line.
And last, but certainly not least, is the In Touch Highlighter in Comfort.
While it says highlighter, this is actually a blush for me! It looks like a cool-toned pink in the tube but on my skin is more of a peachy-pink (more pink than peach). Comfort gives my cheeks a great pop of color. Those with darker skintones could definitely use this as a highlighter though. Here is a swatch so you can see it against my (super pale) skin.
It has a nice shimmer to it, and reminds me of NARS Orgasm quite a bit. It also has good staying power, about 8 hours. After applying in the morning (7 am), I can still see the pinky shimmer in the afternoon (3 pm). Usually by the time I get home it has worn to just a shimmer.
The feel of it is on the drier side of cream blushes/highlighters. It reminds me of ILIA highlighter stick more so than the very creamy blush sticks like Revolution Organics (if you have tried those). One thing I will say is to make sure to put this on moisturized skin. I did have some dry, flakey skin on my cheeks one day and this didn’t hide it at all. After applying some more moisturizer though, this applied well and looked great.
But the best way to see it is in a video!
Overall, I am loving Jane Iredale’s Magic Hour collection! The new Jelly Jars are seriously amazing, Golden Girl is a beautiful golden trio and the In Touch Highlighter gives my cheeks a great pop of color! My makeup collection is officially ready for spring :o)
