I feel like I’ve hit the natural deodorant jackpot! I recently discovered Schmidt’s Deodorant and now I’ve found two more awesome ones!
The first is Colorado Pit Stik. While it might have a funky name, this is one effective deodorant. The first time I tried it, I immediately smelled Tea Tree Oil, which I love. But when I looked at the ingredients and did not see it. I was intrigued.
So I kept on using it and I liked it. The cream is soft in the tin, and spreads easily over fingers. It does have a slight gritty feel to it, which could be due to the arrowroot starch or the baking soda, I’m not sure. But its very slight, and I don’t notice anything after tapping it into underarm area (or as they would say, my pit). With any natural deodorant, I always recommend tapping/pressing it into your underarm area rather than rubbing – it’s much gentler on your skin.
So the ultimate test? I went to a spring training game and was not prepared. I thought it was going to be a colder day and had on capris and shirt. Worst of all, I came straight from work so they were a heavier material, not very ‘breathable.’ Well, pretty quickly I started sweating. Well, everyone I was with was sweating! None of us were prepared for the warm, sunny weather and we were all sweating bullets. But guess what? I didn’t stink at all. Not even a teensy bit. Everyone kept talking about how smelly they were and I wanted to brag about my awesome-smelling armpits but realized that might weird. Either way, I was impressed with the deodorant.
The ingredients are very simple: organic coconut oil, arrowroot starch, baking soda, beeswax and melaleuca oil.
After using it for awhile and loving it, I contacted the company to let them know. I also asked about the tea tree oil scent and imagine my surprise when they said that melaleuca oil IS tea tree oil! I had never heard of melaleuca oil before, but I guess its a fancy name for tea tree :o) Learn a new thing every day!
So overall, Colorado Pit Stick is a great deodorant. It’s a simple formula and highly effective.
Next on the list is Primal Pit Paste!
I received a Primal Pit Paste sample through the Ecopique Blogger Box program, a very interesting concept! While sample boxes are nothing new, Ecopique is a sample box solely for green beauty bloggers. They invited me to be part of their pilot and I happily accepted.
So back to the Primal Pit Paste. The first thing I noticed was the sweet lemon-y smell. It reminded me of lemon cupcakes or some other type of soft lemon smell, it’s really nice. The second thing I noticed was how soft and smooth it is. It has a very creamy feel to it, more on why below.
While I haven’t had a super sweaty day with it on, I have been using it for awhile now and have not noticed any stinkiness with it. It is already in the 80s here, so I have definitely had a few warm (and sweaty) days with this on. Similar to Schmidt’s, I find this doesn’t really help with soaking up any excess sweat like some powder/cream deodorants can do. I can definitely feel like I’m sweating, but I am NOT stinky, which to me is what is really important.
Ingredients: Organic shea butter, organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, non-aluminum baking soda, essential oils of thyme and lemongrass.
After trying it and looking at the ingredients list, it makes sense why this is so smooth and creamy – it has shea butter in it (and organic at that)! Shea butter is super moisturizing. This would be great for someone who has drier skin that finds many natural deodorants to be too harsh.
