I’ve mentioned Silk Naturals a few times (here and here and here), but honestly – not enough! They are truly one of my favorite companies. Their products work great and are so inexpensive for what you get, it’s a little ridiculous.
Well – two products that are staples in my beauty routine that I have mentioned before but have yet to review are the Brow Cream and Sleep in a Jar. With these two products, my eyes look awesome. So here is the official review AND a video tutorial to show them off!
First, the Brow Cream.
Jen (my cousin/makeup artist extraordinaire/video tutorial partner in crime) gave me the great advice years ago that I should use something on my brows. Being naturally blonde, my brows and lashes are light. I learned a long time ago I need mascara to show off my lashes, but neglected my brows until she mentioned it.
Once she darkened them for me, I immediately saw what she meant. They framed my face, somehow made my eyes look larger and overall – I just liked how I looked. Ever since, I’ve been using some sort of brow cream or brow pencil. Over the years, I have tried a LOT (really). But I have to tell you, out of every one I have tried, I love Silk Naturals the most AND it is by far the cheapest of the bunch so its a win-win! Jen agrees too – she loves the brow cream and swears by it.
The two colors I have tried are Medium Brown and Medium Ash. Silk Naturals does sell a Blond, but I find that I look better with brown brows rather than blond, it’s just my personal preference.
So anyhoo – here are pictures side-by-side!
As you can see, Medium Ash is well, more ashy, than Medium Brown. I wear Medium Brown because it is a bit warmer and goes well with my warm-toned blond hair. Jen really likes Medium Ash because it matches her cool-toned platinum blond hair. Other than the tone, these are the same depth of brown.
The Brow Cream is a very thick cream that is almost a bit waxy. What I love about it is I can apply it in the morning and it lasts ALL day. It doesn’t wear off at all, my brows are set and dark for the day until I wash it off at night.
The cream comes in a little plastic container with a swivel lid. You get quite a lot in that little container and since you only need the teensiest amount, one container will last a long time. I’m guessing two years or so. I have been using this for 3 months (picture above is with 3 months use) and I don’t even have a dent in it yet. So who knows how long one container will last! The little dark spots are little holes, I’m guessing from little bits of air from when it was poured.
Now for the ingredients!
Ingredients: Certified Organic Castor Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, Candelilla Wax, Carnuaba Wax. Also contains: Mica, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide
I love it. Just some oil and waxes and mineral pigment and nothing else! Sweeeeet. Since this has no water, it does not need a preservative.
So my brows are taken care of, now for Sleep in a Jar!
I have been using Sleep in a Jar for a few years now. Maybe 3 years? Maybe longer? Anyhoo, it’s been awhile. So I really can’t believe I haven’t done an official review yet.
I was hesitant to try a powder concealer way back when, thinking that would only make my eyes look dry and wrinkly. But I continued to hear such great things I couldn’t resist trying it. Well, I’m telling you – this is one awesome eye concealer.
It isn’t dry, it isn’t powder-y looking – it is natural, and brightening, and overall just super awesome.
One word of warning on the colors, they are light. I’m pretty fair and for most companies, I’m the lightest color they make. Not for Silk Naturals. She has some colors for seriously pale skin. Extra Light is very very light. I use Light Peach (what is pictured above) and it’s great for my NC15 skin.
As well as using this under my eyes, I also like to use this as a general concealer for redness and it also works very well. I’ve never had any breakouts or clogging from this. It lasts quite awhile, I would say probably four hours or so. I do find I need to touch-up mid-day for use as a general concealer.
I don’t have swatches because it’s too close to my skin-tone, but you can see it in action in the video below. Because I am so fair, any slight darkness under my eyes shows. And you can see how this instantly masks it and brightens up my eyes.
But enough of me gabbing on and on – here’s a video where Jen and I show you how to do a full-face look in under 5 minutes! I know I can’t be the only one who is rushed in the morning…
Disclosure: Samples of the brow cream were provided to me by Silk Naturals. Opinions and the choice to review are 100% my own! I’m not compensated for anything I write.
