So I’ve been seeing sponges pop up left and right for applying makeup, and now I’m seeing sponges specifically for cleansing. The newest to the sponge group is Boscia’s Konjac Cleansing Sponge. Per Boscia, their Konjac Cleansing Sponge “provides a natural, gentle way to refine skin texture and reveal a radiant, luminous complexion. Stimulates blood circulation and promotes healthy skin cell renewal.” Hmmmm, radiant, luminous complexion? Yes please!
When I first opened the package (which has too much plastic for my personal preference), the sponge was rock hard. It felt like a pumice stone. My first thought was – I’m not putting this any where near my face! But I put it under running water and slowly it started to soften. Once completely wet, it was a bouncy, SUPER soft sponge. When I say super, and all caps it, that’s because it is really really soft. So don’t let how it feels dry fool you – this is one soft sponge.
It has an odd slippery feel to it too. I don’t want to say slimy because its not like it wears off on your skin or hand, but it does feel a little slimy itself. A little odd, but oh well.
It’s pretty good size too, here it is in my hand so you can see how large it is. It makes me fingers look tiny, but I actually have pretty long fingers.
It has a little string wrapped through it, which makes a great little loop for hanging dry.
Ok, so it’s soft and bouncy – but how well does it work? Well, I think it works really well! After using, I can actually see all of my makeup on it (a little gross, but it washes off) and my skin feels very smooth. This can remove eye makeup but I prefer not to use anything even slightly exfoliating near my eyes. So I stick to a makeup remover for that area and use this on the rest of my face.
I have tried this with an oil-based cleanser, foaming cleanser and bar cleanser, and it works well with all. I think its better with liquid cleanser, either oil or water-based, than bar cleanser, but I was able to get it to foam nicely and clean with a few swipes of soap on the top.
I’m not sure if I can say my skin is more radiant and luminous, but I will say the Boscia Konjac Sponge is very effective at removing makeup and providing light exfoliation. It feels more soft and gentle than even my softest washcloths. Since it works so well and with all sorts of cleansers, this is staying part of my nightly routine.
