I love finding out about new makeup companies! I was recently contacted by Delizioso Skincare, an all natural skincare company based in Canada. Their product list is quite extensive – everything from hair care to makeup to skin care. I have tried both their lipsticks and eye shadows and both are great!
First, their lipstick. I tried 4 shades:
- Grapefruit Explosion
- Acai Swirl
- Lychee Crisp
- Red Cherry
Unfortunately, they do not have descriptions online and their pictures are not always accurate. I found Lychee Crisp and Red Cherry to look very similar to the pictures, but the other two – not so much. Here are my descriptions:
Grapefruit Explosion: a light, sheer peach
Acai Swirl: a creamy neutral pink with a hint of peach and shimmer
Lychee Crisp: a dark pink with a hint of purple – a modern mauve
Red Cherry: an opaque bright fire engine red with an orange tint
Here are the swatches on my arm:
All four of these colors are lovely. Grapefruit Explosion is too light for me, it washes me out – but I could see this worn well on women with darker/tan skin tones who want a light color lippie.
I’m also impressed with how pigmented these are! Grapefruit Explosion is a little sheer but the rest of the colors are very pigmented, especially Red Cherry.
Here are Acai Swirl, Lychee Crisp and Red Cherry on my lips:
Out of the three, Lychee Crisp is my favorite. I like the fact that it is a darker pink so provides some contrast against my fair skin. It also gives my lips a little pop while still looking natural.
Acai Swirl is also nice. It’s almost the same color as my lips, but just a little more peachy. It’s great when I want to tone down my lips to focus on my eyes.
Red Cherry is all about the BLING. While it is a bit more orange than what I typically wear in reds, I still really like it. I’ve worn it out when I’ve had neutral eyes and it looks great against my fair skin. Don’t be afraid of the reds!
Pondering the meaning of life, beauty…..and red lipstick.
All of these lipsticks have a creamy feel and sink in after 10-15 minutes. They don’t make my lips feel dry per se, but I wouldn’t call them moisturizing. They leave your lips feeling like how they were before you applied the lipstick. Since they do sink in, sometimes I like to follow up with a gloss just for extra moisture.
These also last a few hours, which is pretty impressive for a natural lipstick!
The packaging of the lipsticks is in your typical black plastic lipstick tube. While not very flashy or fancy, it does the job.
Now for the ingredients!
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Barium Sulfate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuacu) Seed Butter, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Wax, Vitamin E, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Silica, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Hordeum Vulgare Seed Extract, Tocopherol, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract, Cinnamomum Zeylancum (Cinnamon) Bark Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Hydrastis Canadensis (Goldenseal) Root Extract. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Iron Oxides.
Castor seed oil is a hard oil which is why it’s so often used as a base in lipsticks and lip balms, it keeps them stiff so they retain their shape.
Barium sulfate is high up on the list, it is an “Opacifying Agent” which just means it helps things be opaque. No wonder these look so pigmented on my skin!
The next two ingredients are both waxes – carnauba and candelilla, which are also used for their thickening properties.
After these are the moisturizing oils – pomegranate, jojoba, cupuacu and sesame. These are all moisturizing and nourishing for lips. It’s kind of a shame these aren’t a bit higher on the list, but I’m glad they are at least included! I think these four oils help keep the lipstick from being drying.
As well as the moisturizing oils, this also contains Vitamin E, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil and Hordeum Vulgare Seed Extract which are all very conditioning.
There are also quite a few essential oils at the end, which I imagine are used as a natural preservative blend. The lipsticks do not have any sort of flavor, so the amount of these must be pretty small.
Overall – Delizioso lipsticks are highly pigmented, natural lipsticks with good-for-skin ingredients. While the moisturizing ingredients tend to be a bit lower on the list, these don’t leave my lips dry. The color sinks in, creating almost a stain, that lasts for hours. And with the large variety of colors, I imagine there is a color for everyone! Now if they would just add color descriptions…
What are your favorite lipsticks and colors?
