While I think I have a pretty good eye for seeing through marketing claims, I’m also the first to admit I’m a sucker for certain ones. Anything that makes my skin glow is one of them – I want glowy skin! And the other? Perfection. Of course, who DOESN’T want perfect skin? I want perfect skin! So when I saw the A+ Perfecting Serum by Blissoma, of course I had to try it.
I’ve heard of Blissoma before but had yet to try any of their skin care. Well, I recently discovered an online vendor Eve Organics which only sells 100% natural skin care that have no synthetic ingredients – Blissoma being one of them. While based in Australia, they carry a variety of lines from across the world and also ship internationally. I’m always happy to see (and help promote) online vendors that promote natural and organic beauty!
But back to Blissoma, if I’m going to start with trying something new, I might as well start with perfection ;o)
So as you have probably guessed since I’m reviewing it, I really love this serum. While I unfortunately cannot say my skin looks perfect, I can definitely say it looks better! When I started using this serum, my skin had red bumps and overall irritation from a bad reaction to a separate product (which I’m not going to review because I only review great products). Within a few days, red bumps and irritation were gone! This was a month ago and my skin continues to look better every day.
My major skin concerns are uneven skin tone, redness on my nose, cheeks and chin, and breakouts around that time-of-the-month. This has helped all 3.
My skin looks much more even-toned with less redness (more into why in the ingredients below) and my breakouts are even fewer. I’ve only been using this one month so have one gone through one cycle, but I usually have 2-3 larger zits when I start my period (TMI perhaps) and this past month I only had 1! Now you might be thinking, ok, 2-3 to 1? But I kid you not, I ALWAYS have a couple so only 1 is pretty darn nice. Now, when I get them, I’m usually able to get rid of them pretty quickly using a few other products (discussed here if interested). But not getting them in the first place would be even better :o)
The serum is a tan color and is pretty thin. It spreads well over skin and sinks in pretty quickly (5 minutes or so). Once it sinks in, it was like it was never there. My skin is soft, with no tackiness at all. This is nice if you have oily skin, but for those with dry skin – you are going to need a moisturizer over this.
I initially was using two pumps but have found that one pump works just as well. I’m about half way through it and have been using this twice a day for the past month (and using two pumps for awhile), so this will last at least two months – more like 3 or 4 depending on usage.
I also really like the smell. It is a bit strong, but really fresh and lovely. Sort of a floral herbal scent, more floral than herbal. Once it sinks in though, I don’t smell it anymore.
So now for the ingredients!

So I will be 100% honest in that the reason it took me so long to try Blissoma products was that I was intimidated by the lengthy ingredients list, which have quite a lot of ‘active’ ingredients. I’ve used skin care lines with a bunch of stuff in them before and my skin freaked out. But this is formulated superbly well because I have not experienced any skin irritation at ALL. In fact, quite the opposite! But I’ve already mentioned that so let’s get back to the ingredients…
There are quite a few plant extracts in here, which also contribute to its floral scent. Looking through the ingredients, a few pop out which explain my skin’s positive response:
One is the Aloe Juice, aloe is known for being healing for skin. As a kid growing up in Arizona, we had (and still have) aloe plants all over the place. It was normal to break off the leaves and rub the inside juice/pulp over scratches and burns. Aloe is well known for helping burns, but helps soothe skin in general.
I also see witch hazel which is known for being great for acne, and I’ve discussed witch hazel a few times in previous skin care reviews.
Jojoba oil is actually not a true oil but is a wax, which just happens to be liquid at room temperature. Its ingredients closely match what our natural skin ingredients are, and is a nice lightweight but moisturizing oil that is great for skin.
And then lastly is the niacinamide. I first learned about niacinamide years ago in the very beginnings of my skin care quest. It is related to vitamin B3/niacin, but does not have the toxic effects of niacin. Funny enough, niacin in large doses can cause blushing (referring to as the ‘niacin flush’) but niacinamide does NOT cause this and is quite the opposite! It is anti-inflammatory, helps reduces redness and discoloration and also helps with acne. All in all, it’s pretty awesome for skin.
So the fact that this serum contains niacinamide, aloe and witch hazel help it be great for acne while also help with irritation and redness. And the jojoba oil never hurts too ;o) And interestingly enough when you look at the skin type this serum is meant for it states right on the box: oily, acne, irritated and discolored. I love when claims for a product are backed by its ingredients!
So all in all, while my skin may not be perfect, I am SUPER impressed with Blissoma’s A+ Perfecting Serum. My skin is more calm, less red with less breakouts. I was first impressed with Julie Longyear of Blissoma with her ingredients booklet (reviewed here) and now see she knows what she is doing – this serum is great! I’m looking forward to trying more from the Blissoma line.
