Protect my Pale Skin with Burnout Ocean Tested Sunscreen

Finding a good sunscreen is hard. Finding a good matte sunscreen can be even harder. I’m happy to report to you all – I have found a GREAT matte sunscreen!

Burnout Pure Suncare has a whole line of sun products. I’ve used their lip balms, eco-sensitive sunscreen and even tried their moisturizer as well. I’m a huge fan of their sunscreen lip balms FYI (I’ll get around to reviewing them sooner or later). Their eco-sensitive sunscreen has a thicker, balmy feel though. So while it works great as a sunscreen, it’s not something I prefer to wear every day. I had heard that Ocean Tested has a completely different texture though, so was very excited when I saw it on the website of Integrity Botanicals.

I wasn’t expecting this to be matte, it’s not even marketed that way. But the first time I tried this, I was instantly impressed with how lightly it applies and sinks in immediately. No glare, no shine. And it stays that way all day! Even by the end of the day, my forehead is as matte as it was in the morning. THAT is impressive. Some products that market themselves as matte can leave almost a powdery finish. This isn’t that way, it just sinks in super quickly and leaves your skin feeling like how it was before you put it on.

Because it is matte, it is not super moisturizing. I wouldn’t call this drying, but those with dry to very dry skin will probably want to put some moisturizer on underneath, or at least on dry areas. In summers this sunscreen is enough moisture, right now it’s pretty dry so I have to put moisturizer on my cheeks.

I love the smell of this too, it reminds me of their coconut lip balm. It’s not a fake, super sweet coconut like some sun products can be. It’s a very fresh, light coconut-y type smell that reminds me of sunshine and the beach.

As I mentioned before, this has a very light feel. The product isn’t runny/thin though. It has a thicker texture, but applies light. Sounds odd I know, you’ll just have to take my word for it ;o)

Now for the other (usual) negative about natural sunscreens, the dreaded white cast! I’m happy to report this does NOT have a white cast. Not even a little bit. I will admit I am pretty pale so if it did, it may not be all that noticeable haha but I have tried it on my arms and hands and face and never noticed anything white.

Now for the best part – the ingredients! The thing I love about Burnout is the ingredients. Ingredient lists are always short and include great things, but not the whole kitchen sink. Knowing this is ocean safe is a huge bonus too!

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 18.6%

Other Ingredients: Aqua (Deionized Water), Capric/Capryllic Triglycerides, Vegetable Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sorbitol, Imperata Cylindrical (Root) Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Virgin Hemp Seed Oil, Sorbitan Stearate, Arabidopsis Extract, Plankton Extract, Xanthan Gum.

So without going into each ingredient individually, this includes a nice mixture of moisturizing ingredients, like the triglycerides, glycerin and hemp seed oil. The Arabidopsis Extract is interesting. I had not heard of it before and a quick google search landed me on this article. While I can’t say I understand 100% of it, it appears Arabidopsis Extract has DNA repairing properties! A definite must for any sunscreen. I’m very impressed.

Overall, a great matte sunscreen!

Disclosure: A sample was provided to me by Integrity Botanicals to try. Opinions and the choice to review are 100% my own! I’m not compensated for anything I write.

  1. Thanks for this review – I’ve been looking for a safer sunscreen as I’m so concerned about the ingredients in most.. I wasn’t able to find what country you were reviewing from – is this available in Australia?
