Eye creams are tough. Perhaps I just have too high of standards. I don’t have a bunch of deep wrinkles (yet), but I can get smaller, fine wrinkles around my eyes. My main problem is dark circles and puffiness. I’m so fair that the lightest of undereye circles make me look like a zombie. Add puffiness to the mix and I am a mess in the morning. So my two goals for an eye cream: help with puffiness and help with dark circles. So far, nothing has worked all that great. But since I am reviewing this you may have guessed by now that I have finally found something! I have been super impressed with this eye cream, its the first I have tried where I have actually seen results.
The first thing that wowed me about the ilike bioflavonoid eye cream was the size container it comes in, it’s huge! So while the eye cream is a bit pricey, I swear this will last a year or so. I’ve been using it for about a month or so and have barely even made a dent.
The texture is pretty standard for an eye cream, a thicker lotion/cream. It spreads nicely around my eye area and sinks in quickly. The sinking in quickly part is nice because I can use it in the morning and apply makeup over it without it caking or looking greasy or anything, a definite plus!
The smell is also really nice. It’s kinda floral, kinda fruity, but very natural. No odd, artificial fragrance here. It’s not super strong either, but I do usually get a whiff of it when I first apply it.
So I’ve mentioned that it works already, but I do have to state again, I am super impressed with the results. I feel like my eyes just look brighter. Since wearing it consistently, they are less puffy in the morning and I swear my undereye darkness is even better. What really made me notice it was when I tried a different product. I got some samples with a purchase, and one of them was for an eye cream. Well, I’m trying to use samples as I get them rather than collecting them until I have a massive sample collection. I tried this particular eye cream sample for two nights and by the second morning, my eyes looked awful! They looked puffy and dark and just bleh. I immediately threw out the sample and went back to ilike and voila, the next morning, my eyes looked better again. THAT made me a believer, and is why I’m writing this review.
The only negative about the eye cream is that if I put it on top of my eyelids (instead of below the eyes), it somehow finagles its way into my eyes and then my eye burns. Not rush-to-some-water-because-my-eye-is-melting kind of burn, but it doesn’t feel pleasant. I talked to ilike about this and they let me know that eye cream isn’t supposed to go on eyelids….oops. Sooo, as long as I keep it below my eye then my eyes look great and no burning! If you are someone who puts eye cream on your eyelid, you may want to stop – guess you’re not supposed to!
Well, perhaps there may be two negatives. I’m not a huge fan of jars because one, it can allow oxidation of any good-for-skin ingredients and two, it can get contaminated. So with this, I am just sure to open it quickly, scoop what I need with clean fingers or a qtip and close it back up. I hope in the future they put this in a tube though, it would be more stable for the product.
Now for the ingredients!
Active ingredients: Coconut Oil, Cantaloupe, Elderberry, Blackcurrant, Grape, Sesame Oil, Soy Oil, Algae – Bioflavonoids, Ployphenols, Vitamins A, B, C, E and K, Carotene (Provitamin A), Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids, Tannins, Polysaccharides (Carbohydrates), Glycoprotein, Glucose, Iron, Zinc, Mineral Salts, Trace Elements
Full ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (coconut oil fatty acids), Cucumis Melo (melon), Sambucus Nigra (elderberry), Ribes Nigrum (blackcurrent), Myristic Acid, Myristyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Alcohol, Vitis Vinifera (grape seed oil), Sesamum Indicum (sesame oil), Glycine Soja (soy oil), Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline, Enteromorpha Compressa, Behenyl Alcohol, Myristyl Glucoside, Benzyl Alcohol, Palmitic Acid, Arachidyl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, p-Anisic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Xanthan Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Vitis Vinifera, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Hydroxide, Caesalpinia Spinosa Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid.
So I am usually not a fan of coconut oil on my skin because it’s a dry oil and I don’t care for the feel, but this has a really nice mix of moisturizing ingredients that prevent this from feeling dry. I’m guessing the combination of the glycerin and the soy oil is what helps it feel so emollient, as even sesame oil can feel dry too.
Well, I usually go into detail about specific ingredients that are beneficial but as you can see from the active ingredients – it’s loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals – you name it. These are all really great ingredients that would be great for the delicate eye area.
The preservatives in this are some of my favorites: sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate. These are food grade preservative so are pretty safe for skin compared to others like phenoxyethanol. Another plus!
Overall, ilike is a great eye cream (as if I haven’t said it already). This is the first product I’ve tried from ilike but I have to say, I hope it won’t be the last!
