Life is BUSY. I am not happy with how often I have been posting, but don’t worry – I will really try to post more often! Turns out working full time and teaching two college courses on the side and writing a blog gets to be quite a lot of work! ha

So back to the eyeshadow review series! Well, I have two exciting (well, *I* think they are exciting) to share. One, this post is not just on Jane Iredale’s eyeshadows but also an entire series they came out for fall that is beautiful. And two, I have my very first video! I’m very lucky in that my super cool cousin is also a super awesome professional makeup artist. We got together this weekend and had a lot of fun with makeup, and I have a video tutorial to share with you all for how to use the makeup in the Simply Magical set. I hope to make video tutorials a regular part of the blog in the future!
Jane Iredale’s Simply Magical collection consists of two sets, Spellbinding and Mesmerizing. Each set includes the same eyeshadow set and mystikol eye pencil, but varies on the blush and lip product.
Spellbinding includes:
- Whisper PurePressed Blush
- Venice JustKissed Lip Plumper
- Sundown Eyeshadow Trio
- Smokey Quartz Mystikol
- Cosmetic bag
This set is a more peachy/nude collection.
Mesmerizing includes:
- Barely Rose PurePressed Blush
- Montreal JustKissed Lip Plumper
- Sundown Eyeshadow Trio
- Smokey Quartz Mystikol
- Cosmetic bag
This set is more pink/red.
So first, the sundown eyeshadow trio! This set includes all purply tones. The lightest color is a very very faint lilac, just slightly darker than a white. The middle purple is a medium purple that is slightly brown/nude and is my favorite color - it’s beautiful! The darkest is a very dark purple that could be used for an eyeliner or a smokey eye. They all have a slight shimmer, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them shimmery – but they are not matte, kinda right in between. These apply so smooth and blend really well. They also really last (disclosure, I always wear a primer) and don’t crease. I’m super impressed. This is my first eyeshadow trio I’ve tried from JI and I definitely want to start collecting all of their other colors! Having it pressed is also very convenient, no messy powder!
The Mystikol eye pencil is really interesting, I’m not sure if the “pencil” part is even appropriate though. It is a double ended “pencil” (for lack of a better word) that has two pointed sponges on each end. Each cap has a cream color in it and you dab the pointed sponge into its cap to deposit color, and then you apply. So its sort of like a cream eyeshadow/eyeliner pencil….. kind of. Anyway, the colors on it are also just as gorgeous as the sundown trio. The pink is actually more of a rosey gold peach that is really vibrant. The dark color is sort of like the darkest eyeshadow, but a little more dark and also more vibrant. Here is a swatch of the three eyeshadows in the middle with the light and dark end of Mystikol on the ends.

The lightest color is hard to show on my fair skin, but you can see the other colors really well. The mystikol colors just pop, and while the picture makes the lighter part look pink, it’s actually a more rosey peachy color (you will see it on the video really well!).
Now for the blush and lipstick. The Spellbinding set includes Whisper and Venice. Whisper is a shimmery peach color that I LOVE, it’s perfect for my fair skin. Venice is a nude color with a hint of red, it reminds me of Clinique’s Black Honey a lot, but perhaps a little more nude and a little lighter than Black Honey.

The Mesmerizing set includes Barely Rose and Montreal. Barely Rose is a matte medium pink blush that is highly pigmented. It’s a nice color but I have to be really careful on my fair skin to not apply too much. Montreal looks like it would be a bright red lipstick but it’s a really nice sheer red. It adds just a pop of cool red color. I really love this, as I love red but bright red sometimes overpowers my face. As you can see from the picture, the colors are a lot more pink/red than the Spellbinding collection.

Overall, Simply Magical is a beautiful line. Want to see more? Watch the video!! (Forgive us if it’s a bit awkward – it’s our first video! We’ll get better, I promise)
Disclosure: Samples were provided to me by Jane Iredale to try. Opinions and the choice to review are 100% my own! I’m not compensated for anything I write.
The collection is beautiful. I quite like her lip plumpers and Montreal looks lovely.
