Protected Skin with Soleil Organique SPF 45 Sunscreen Mist

I’ve already reviewed Soleil’s SPF 20 Moisturizer, and I love this product just as much – if not more! The truth is, sometimes even SPF 20 just isn’t enough for my skin in the summer. For a day-to-date protection, sure. But if I’m going to be spending any amount of time outside, I need something higher.

Soleil Organique graciously sent me a sample of the SPF 45 mist and I have to say, it’s really awesome.

The texture of it is very thin, like water. It is meant for the body so the texture is perfect being so thin. You can spray on your arms, rub it in and you are set! No thick lotions with a white cast that you have to rub in and rub in and rub in, and it still leaves white.  I was able to spritz this all over and rub it in super quickly.

The one thing I will say is the sprayer is the straight shot kind – a laser beam of sunscreen coming right at you. However, because this is sample size I have no idea if the full size of the product is this way. When I run out of the sample, I plan on buying the full size so I can update this review. But if the full size is similar to the sample, I wish the spray was more of a mist than a straight shot. It’s not that big of a deal since it applies and sinks in so well, but mists just feel nice :o)

Another great thing about this sunscreen is that it sticks. I put it on my arms, neck and chest when I was out doing yard work for about an hour….maybe two hours…ok, probably only an hour. I got pretty dirty (if you can imagine me trying to shovel dirt, it’s both comical and a little pathetic), so after about an hour of that I was DONE. I went to take a shower and was surprised that the sunscreen did not want to  rinse off my arms! I had been outside sweating and working for a good solid hour and that sunscreen stayed right where it was at. I had to scrub the sunscreen off – that is impressive.

Besides yard work, something a little more up my alley was a day by the pool. I spent a day by the pool with a friend drinking sweet tea vodka and lemonades (SO freakin’ delicious) and used this on my face and chest. I probably spent about 4 hours outside. And you know what? I didn’t get burned at ALL. You might be thinking “no biggs, I spend 4 hours outside all the time and I never burn” but the truth is – I am not you. I burn. I am pale and live in Arizona where it is hot and I burn. But I didn’t burn with that sunscreen on! That is when I was really sold.

So as you may have guessed from my previous email, I also started to use this on my face. I emailed them asking if there was anything that would not be appropriate for face and they said no so I started wearing this on my face when I was going to be outside for any length of time. I just spritz a little in my fingers and then apply to my face. I wouldn’t recommend spraying straight onto your face because you don’t want to accidentally get an eyeful of sunscreen. Organic or not, that’s probably not going to feel well.

Since it is not a moisturizer, I do find I need to put on a little bit of moisturizer underneath just to prevent my skin from feeling dry. What is so great though is while the SPF 20 can feel a little tacky, this doesn’t feel tacky at ALL. Super smooth and works great with liquid foundation, powder foundation – you name it. I love to apply this and then let it sink in (maybe 5-10 minutes), and then I apply some powder foundation that has SPF in it just for an extra boost. It looks great and my pale skin is protected. This does leave a somewhat dewy finish, so if you have oily skin – you may not like this. But even for my combo skin in the summer, I find having the powder foundation on top makes it look perfect.

Now for the ingredients!

Active Ingredient: Titanium Dioxide, 24%. Inactive ingredients: Isododecane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Methicone, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Hydrogenated Polycyclopentadiene, Tocopherol, Bisabolol, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Citrus Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Cinnamonum Camphora (Camphor) Bark Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Juniperus Virginiana Oil, Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract, Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil, Coriandrum Sativum (Coriander) Fruit Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower Extract, Viola Odorata Flower/Leaf Extract, Glucose, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan).

So this does have a few nice ingredients like tocopherol (vitamin E) and bisabolol (anti-irritant), but it does not have the array of good-for-skin ingredients like the moisturizer. Since this is for the body though, it makes sense. It does have some essential oils in it but I have not experienced any irritation.

I usually look for the preservative system, but I couldn’t really see one. Then I realized that this appears to be an oil-based sunscreen and does not have any water. Water is really why you need preservatives, oil and oil-based ingredients tend to not grow microbials (but they can go rancid). Then it clicked why this was so great for staying on skin! An oil-based product is not going to easily run off the skin from sweat or water like a water-based product.

Overall, this is an awesome sunscreen. It applies well on my body and applies well on my face. It protects my skin for a whole day of lounging by the pool and I can even wear powder makeup on top of it. We have a winner!
