I have mentioned this before, but I really love soap. And real, handmade soap. I have used lots of natural soap, and haven’t gotten around to reviewing any yet. Well, thought I should start!
I had originally tried Zum (by Indigo Wild) as a sample from Nature of Beauty. It was a packet of liquid soap and packet of lotion. I loved the fresh smell of both. The liquid soap cleaned my hands well. The lotion was very moisturizing and not greasy! I fell in love with the brand.
I then received one of their sachets which I LOVE. I got it back in December and it is now August and still makes the clothes in my drawer smell SO nice. It doesn’t really have any identifiable smell. It’s a mixture of all of their soap shavings, so its just fresh and wonderful.
So after falling in these with these, I picked up the Zum Soap Lovers Box (hello! Made for me?) from Nature of Beauty for Earth Day. It contains:
3 bars of soap:
- Tangerine Orange
3 packets of laundry soap:
- Sweet orange
- Frankincense & Myrrh
3 mini packets of liquid soap:
- Frankincense & Myrrh
- Rosemary Mint
Sachet of soap shavings
I immediately put the sachet in one of my clothes drawers to make my pajamas smell nice. It really works!
I had a bunch of laundry to do, so decided to try the laundry soap samples first. The laundry soap is a thin consistency, and one packet was for one load of laundry. Overall, these were nice. Not the best laundry soap I’ve ever tried, but certainly not the worst. They cleaned my clothes well, but I did have a washcloth with some mascara and eyeliner on it that didn’t come completely out. So I was a bit disappointed. I have had that problem before with some (but not all) natural laundry detergents. The good thing though is everything else seemed very clean so it’s not too big of a deal. The smell of the laundry soap was kind of there when I took the clothes out of the washer, but not as much as strong of a scent as their other products. This could be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. I didn’t mind it though. I just want my clothes clean, smelling nice is optional!
The hand soaps are thicker than the laundry soap, so you only need a bit to create a wonderful thick lather. I loved all three, and they cleaned very well. I noticed if I used too much soap, it left my hands a little dry, but as long as I only used a little bit (and a little bit is all you really need!), my hands were clean and soft – and smelled great! I can’t get over how nice Zum products smell.
Out of the three bar soaps, I decided to try Frankincense-Lavender first. It smells a little masculine scent from the Frankincense, but I love it anyway. It makes a really nice thicker frothy lather and doesn’t leave my skin dry after a shower.
I got impatient (me? never!) and started to use the tangerine orange soap as well. It has a wonderful citrus scent that is a little sweet, due to the tangerine. It’s great for summer to add some freshness and brightness to a hot day.
Then lastly I used the Eucalyptus. What a great scent to start the day! It’s very fresh and energizing. It’s a slightly sweeter Eucalyptus than some other Eucalyptus-scented I’ve tried in the past. Sometimes they can start to smell a little VICKS-y, but this doesn’t at all. It’s sweet and fresh. And, like the other soaps, it makes a nice thick frothy lather and cleans my skin well without leaving it super dry.
All of the soaps have groves along the sides, which is really nice for massaging your skin as you apply. It goes away within a couple of uses though. Sad for me, but if you don’t like soap with rippled sides, then it will be gone soon.
The thing that’s great about Zum for all of their products I’ve tried is that the scents are very natural, not artificial or overpowering at all. If it says it’s going to smell like sweet orange, then by golly it’s going to smell like a real, ripe sweet orange. The frankicense-lavender smells like really frankincense oil mixed with lavender. I’m very amazed with how FRESH everything smells, it’s really nice – and impressive!
Now for the ingredients!
Zum Soap Bar: Saponified 100% food grade olive, coconut, palm, and castor oils, in a goat’s milk base, with pure essential oils and mineral pigments.
The coconut and palm really help with the lather, and olive oil is really nourishing. Having olive oil first is what keeps this soap from being too drying!
Zum Liquid Soap: Saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor and certified organic jojoba, pure essential oils, tocopherol (vitamin e) and sodium borate.
This one is similar to the bar soap but coconut is before olive oil. I did notice the liquid was a bit more drying, and having coconut first could be why! Coconut, while making really great lather, can be drying in large amounts. This also has sodium borate, another word for borax, which can also be a little drying. I did find this soap drying when I used too much, but was fine in small amounts (which saves product anyway!)
Zum Laundry Detergent: Saponified 100% coconut oil, sodium borate, sodium bicarbonate, pure essential oils and vegetable glycerin.
The laundry detergent is a blend of only coconut oil and borax, making a great cleaning solution! I did find this cleaned my clothes/towels well (but not perfectly), and I really love this all-natural formula. No weird chemicals or irritants here!
Overall, a great kit that only makes me want to try other Zum products!
