I’ll start this out with saying I love sales. I really do. I’m guessing most people do? It’s like puppies and kittens, how can you NOT love them? But I’m really a sucker for sales – especially if it’s a sale AND a gift with purchase, count me in!
NuboNau has an awesome sale a couple of times a year where they mark a bunch of stuff 40% off. Last fall, I *may* have gone on a little spree and bought a bunch of stuff. One thing I picked up was Aromatherapy Associates Enrich Hair Oil. Ooooo, what a good steal I got because this hair oil is awesome.
I usually don’t talk about the smell first, but the smell.is.AMAZING. I guess with “Aromatherapy” in the name you would hope all of their products smell great, and they do! The two main smells are Ylang Ylang and Geranium. There is actually more Patchouli in it than those two ingredients (ingredients below), but I don’t ever seem to smell that. The Patchouli may just give some background earthiness to it, but the Ylang Ylang and Geranium are the stars of the show. Such a fresh, floral smell from the Geranium with that deep sexiness of Ylang Ylang (you know what I’m talking about), I love it.
I use 3-4 pumps and run it through DRY hair. I find it’s easiest to start with one pump on one section, then another pump on another. If you do a bunch of pumps at once and try to get it all over your hair, you’ll end up with some really greasy spots and then spots that are totally dry. So I slowly apply it all over for an even finish.
My hair sucks this oil up really quickly. Not sure if that is a quality of the oil or my hair, perhaps both? While it does seem to suck it up, it does look greasy. Don’t think this is something you can apply and then go out for the day, your hair WILL look greasy. After all, you just applied 4 pumps of oil to it! But this is super awesome to leave in during a nice bath and then wash out at the end, or even better (and what I do), is leave it on all night! I just put it on at night, and then wash it out in the shower in the morning. I was nervous the first time I did this, that it would make a mess on my pillowcase but it never did. I’ve used it quite a few times and it never has. It also washes out very well so you don’t have to worry about having a greasy mess of hair after your normal shampoo/conditioner routine.
I use this about every two to three weeks. If my hair has gotten really dry, like right after getting highlights or if I go a little too crazy with the hair dryer and straightening iron, I use this once a week. But usually once every couple weeks has kept my hair super healthy, bouncy and VERY shiny. After washing this out and then styling, I *love* my hair. It just looks super healthy and shiny and I have even gotten compliments on it from people! Little do they know my secret….bwahaha (that’s an evil laugh by the way)
Now for the ingredients!
Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Isopropyl Jojobate (And) Jojoba Alcohol (And) Jojoba Esters, Orbignya Speciosa Kernel And Astrocaryum Murumuru Butter, Pogostemon Cablin (Patchouli) Oil, Cananga Odorata (Ylang Ylang) Oil, Pelargonium Capitatum (Geranium) Oil, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E) Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Benzoate, Geraniol, Citronellol, Linalool, Farnesol.
The texture of this oil is actually a little dry. Coconut oil can have a dry finish, and the other major oil is Jojoba, which is actually a wax not an oil. I don’t like dry oils on my skin, but since this is going on my hair, I don’t mind.
Because this is an all-oil product, you really don’t need preservatives because bacteria and such don’t really grow in oil-only products. However, oils still can go rancid over time. It looks like they added some rosemary oil and vitamin E, which helps prevent rancidity as well as some of the citrus oils (citronellol, linalool etc) to also help prevent it from going bad.
Overall, this is an awesome hair oil that has really helped shape my hair for the better. Not only does it smell heavenly, but it really works!
